By accessing or using OpenEngineData ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our Service.

2. Description of Service

OpenEngineData provides tools for general aviation pilots to:

  • Upload and store engine monitor data from JPI devices
  • Visualize flight data through interactive charts and maps
  • Export data in various formats
  • Optionally share flight data with others
  • Convert JPI files to CSV format (browser-based tool)

3. User Accounts

To use certain features of the Service, you must create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Maintain the security of your password
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use

4. User Data

Ownership

You retain all rights to the flight data you upload. By uploading data, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your data as necessary to provide the Service.

Accuracy

You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you upload. We do not verify or validate the accuracy of flight data.

Backup

While we maintain regular backups, you are responsible for maintaining your own copies of important data. We recommend keeping your original JPI files.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose
  • Upload malicious files or code
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • Upload data that you do not have the right to share
  • Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

Important Aviation Disclaimer: OpenEngineData is not a substitute for proper aircraft maintenance, professional mechanical inspection, or pilot training. Always consult with a certified aircraft mechanic (A&P) for any maintenance decisions. Do not rely solely on data from this Service for flight safety decisions.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OPENENGINEDATA SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES.

We specifically disclaim any liability related to:

  • Decisions made based on data displayed by the Service
  • Aircraft maintenance decisions
  • Flight safety decisions
  • Loss of data

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless OpenEngineData and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

9. Modifications to Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time, with or without notice. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

10. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account at any time for violation of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time through your account settings.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by posting a notice on our website. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
